The 2x2 Show

For my sorta official grand opening, I invited 12 artists to participate in a show I was dubbing The 2x2 show. I asked everyone to create a piece 24 inches square. Give or take few inches most followed the guidelines pretty well and they made a great show out of it. The show also ran in conjunction with the Mid-City Merchants White Light night, a bi-annual art hop down Government St. in Baton Rouge. Between informed friends and curious passers-by, there was a decent sized crowd around throughout the night. Here are some pics from the show.

Welcome to Bricks & Bombs

So… welcome to my new blog for my new shop and gallery, Bricks & Bombs. Just to give a quick briefing on Bricks & Bombs, aside from housing the office of my design business Cheap Design, my clothing brand Highland & State, its kinda now the official ICON store and independent art gallery for YOU. For quite a few years now I have been doing periodic shows at the Spanish Moon here in Baton Rouge(Thanks Aaron, you da man!), and while a great place to have a great time and hang out with cool people, its typically not the ideal place to have an art show. I’ve been on the search for quite some time now for a more well lit, less smoke filled, easier to hang artwork place to have an art show. And well, it took a little while, but I found one. So for the last 2 months I have been renovating the space(well, I’ve been watching Andy Lemoine renovate it mostly) and getting it ready to house what I hope to be a future for the artists in my area that need a place to show their work. There are no membership fees, no approval applications, heck right now, I don’t even plan to take a commision from artwork sold.

So if YOU need a place to have a show and think that my small gallery would be great for your first solo show or if you have a couple close knit friends that have been making sweaters on the weekends and want to show off your beautifully entwined creations, well, they had better be really cool sweaters, but you can have a show here too. Just inquire inside. I’m located at 449 Hearthstone Dr. in Baton Rouge, LA.
